Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad is disappointed with Selangor Umno for not capitalising on the menteri besar crisis.

He called on Selangor Umno, which is currently led by former minister Noh Omar, to rise again and do something effective while Pakatan Rakyat reeled from the imbroglio.

"I'm sad to see Umno not gaining anything during Pakatan's political disarray.

"What has happened to (Selangor) Umno? It seems weak and not able to recover to rule the state again.

"Previously, we controlled Selangor and now we have no chance even when others are divided," he was quoted as saying in Kota Bharu by Bernama .

Selangor fell to Pakatan Rakyat in the 2008 general election, which sent shockwaves throughout Umno and BN.

Mahathir had then blamed his successor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for the electoral debacle, which also saw BN lose its two-third parliamentary majority for the first time.

Despite BN, under the stewardship of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, launching a massive offensive in the last general election, Pakatan managed to retain power in Selangor.

However, surveys indicated that Pakatan’s support had eroded due to the protracted menteri besar crisis, which also strained ties between PKR, DAP and PAS.
