Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low has denied that he has not been doing enough in the current scandal involving Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"Someone said I'm not doing enough. When I was outside as an activist, yes, I spoke a lot against the government, constructively.

"But when I go in, I'm part of the cabinet, there is collective responsibility.

"Do I speak a lot in the cabinet? Absolutely, almost every week," said Low, who was the former chairperson of Transparency International-Malaysia (TI-M).

For the scandal, however, Low said he believes proper investigations needed to be conducted first.

"That's why the auditor-general was asked to go into the investigations. Once they go in, we have to wait for the investigations to find out who and what is wrong, then it will be disclosed.

"Then I will be able to say something without accusing people of committing a crime that they did not do," he said in a workshop session at the 16th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) today.

Don't accuse people unnecessarily

Low stressed how integrity was not just about fighting bribery.

"It's also making sure you don't accuse people unnecessarily. If (you) really want an answer, I'm not gonna say who is guilty.

"I protect the process of insvestigation, the process of audit.

"I can't be an activist minister; start to accuse, and then say sorry that I made a mistake. I have to base it on facts," he said.

Low said the best way to do this was to make sure that the truth will prevail.

"The truth I believe will speak for itself. I can't be loose a cannon.

"It (would) be very easy to say (make accusations). (I would) probably be a hero among the community, but it's not right," he said.

Najib ( photo ) is currently embroiled in a scandal where RM2.6 billion was transferred into his personal accounts, which the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said from a Middle East donor .

The premier have also courted brickbats by many due to the perceived attempts of skewering the investigations into the matter.
