A Wanita Umno leader who expects to be sacked from the party said today it is Umno president and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak who should resign instead.

Gopeng Wanita Umno chief Hamidah Osman said Najib's resignation would also be in line with his own speeches on sacrificing for the party.

"I'm ready to accept my termination, but Najib ( photo ) should quit. He always says you need to sacrifice and put aside personal interests.

"So, why doesn't he put aside his personal interests and sacrifice for Malaysians and Umno,?" Hamidah told reporters outside the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang today.

Hamidah is one of several Umno leaders, including deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, who observers say may be sacked from the party at today's Umno supreme council meeting.

She said she had already received a show-cause letter some time ago for allegedly organising an anti-Najib talk in Perak.

However, Hamidah denied this allegation.

"I did not organise the programme, but if that's the reason (they want to sack me) I don't care," Hamidah said.

The former Wanita Umno information chief was speaking to reporters after welcoming Mahathir who arrived from overseas today.

She was one of several supporters, as well Umi Hafilda Ali, who sang a rendition of "We are the world", a song recorded by the group USA for Africa in 1985, with the chorus changed to "We are Malaysia, we are the rakyat".
