Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said police have reclassified the disappearance of a top officer from the Attorney-General’s Chambers as abduction.

"Based on the information we have, we believe he has been abducted.

"We are reclassifying the case under Section 365 under Penal Code for abduction. We are looking into some leads now," he told reporters in Penang.

The police had formed a special task force to locate Kevin Morais, who has been missing since last Friday.

He was reported last seen leaving his apartment in Menara Duta, Kuala Lumpur, for his office in Putrajaya.

He was also reported to be driving a grey Proton Perdana with registration number WA6264Q.

Slain AmBank founder link?

Khalid said one of Morais' brothers was a witness in the case of slain AmBank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi.

Khalid, who did not identify which brother. said police were looking into the matter to see if there was any link in this to the alleged abduction.

"But if they were any links, we would have known," he told reporters after attending a ceremony to confer the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan medal to 136 former police officers.

He was referring to Najadi's son Pascal who expressed concern that Morais' disappearance is linked to the assassination of his father.

Pascal cited a 'verified source' saying that that Morais' relative Richard Morais, was one of the last persons who saw Hussain alive on July 29, 2013.
