Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar has advised the former IGP's son not to incite the police force to believe his statements.

"I respect former IGP Abdul Rahman Hashim, but I like to advise his son Najib to be more rational and don't try to incite the police force to believe what he thinks is right," said Khalid, when asked to comment about the personal criticism against him.

Khalid also dismissed negative claims against him by Najib in his Facebook and interviews in Malaysiakini .

"I am still in-charge of the police force, so whatever's done is according to the rules and regulations," Khalid said at a press conference in George Town today.

Asked if that meant he was not bowing to any politicians and would stand by his men, Khalid ( photo ) said "of course!".

He was responding to Najib, a veteran crime journalist, who has made scathing remarks against Khalid.

Najib had said that Khalid, like his father, must stand up for the police force, not bow to politicians.

Khalid reports to the outspoken Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Condemning Khalid as having no "moral constitution", Najib proposed that an independent panel be formed to appoint the IGP.

Doesn't know what transpires in force

Khalid said Najib issued the controversial remarks about him as he is now "a bit elderly".

"He does not know what transpires in the force now.

"I dont think he has got the access to know what is going on in the team," Khalid explained.

"I feel his statement presuming that the current situation now is similar to the past during his father's tenure as the police chief," he added.

"That's why he made such statements. Others did not say such things."

Asked to elaborate what transpired in the police force, Khalid said he does not need to as Najib has no knowledge of the current situation.

"I do not have to tell you what happens in my kitchen or bedroom," Khalid quipped.

Asked if Khalid is trying to imply that he was facing a hard time being the IGP, Khalid said "No, I didn't say that".

"I did not mean that. I just said he does not know what is happening, so better keep quiet and come to me instead of making baseless statements," he said.
