PAS to contest more seats than Umno; Dr M turns down Azmin’s offer

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

PAS to contest more seats than Umno

PAS is set to contest 130 parliamentary seats, more than the 121 seats Umno contested in the last general election.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the people must uphold Islam when they go to the polls.

Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar, who recently quit PAS, claimed his former party was planning to work with BN after the general election.

Dr M turns down Azmin’s offer

Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad turned down PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali's offer to give up his parliamentary seat of Gombak to the former PM.

Following Azmin’s offer to the former prime minister, Gombak PAS said it was prepared to face off with Mahathir in the seat in the coming general election.

PAS strategist Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki claimed Azmin was offering his Gombak parliamentary seat to Mahathir in an attempt to thwart his ascent as the seat had become unsafe.

Selangor Umno secretary Johan Abdul Aziz claimed the offer was so that Azmin could find an excuse to move to a safer seat.

DAP and MCA in school row

DAP and MCA engaged in a row over school funding in the key battleground parliamentary constituency of Ayer Hitam.

Pakatan Harapan criticised Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin's ability to manage sensitive issues after a Hindu temple in the state was demolished.

Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy said the demolition should not have happened and was an affront to the Federal Constitution.

BN strategic communications deputy chief Eric See-To urged Penang to come clean on the request for a proposal process for the Penang tunnel project, following MACC's probe.

Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong said he was confident the party can win seats in Penang after two terms without winning any.

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said he is confident the government can develop 80,000 units of affordable housing in the federal territories by the middle of this year.

Some 1,300 people are still displaced in Johor due to flooding.

Some 100 Bersatu members in Klang defected to Umno.
