1MDB says Swiss-seized funds not theirs

Embattled state investment fund 1MDB said that it would not claim ownership of the CHF104 million (RM430 million) seized by Swiss authorities, as it is not theirs.

It also pointed out that the motion on the repatriation of illicit monies in the Swiss National Council mentions neither 1MDB nor the Malaysian government in particular.

The Finance Ministry, which fully owns 1MDB, echoed the remarks, claiming the allegations that the funds were misappropriated from the company are “politically motivated.”

Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) director Cynthia Gabriel said she was told by Swiss lawmakers that the Malaysian government had made no attempts to claim the funds.

The party of Swiss MP Carlo Sommaruga, who tabled the motion for the restitution of the funds, told Malaysiakini that the funds would “ never” be returned to Malaysian government, but to its people.

MCA reacts to Zahid attack

MCA president Liow Tiong Lai said it was inappropriate for Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to openly criticise MCA over the party’s failure to turn up at an event in Rembau on Tuesday.

Negeri Sembilan MCA attributed thier absence to a “ technical issue” with the organiser, saying no one invited them.

Liow’s Facebook page came under fire from BN supporters after it was revealed that he was planning to replace incumbent Alor Gajah MP Koh Nai Kwong with the prime minister’s political secretary Wong Nai Chee.

Wong Chun Wai, the CEO of MCA-owned Star Media Group, said that he meets many people on the job, after the revelation of a photograph with a businessperson being probed in relation to the Penang undersea tunnel.
