Isa Samad to contest in PD polls

Former Negeri Sembilan MB Mohd Isa Samad says he will contest as an independent in the Port Dickson by-election on Oct 13.

PAS named retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Malaysian Air Force, Mohd Nazari Mokhtar as its candidate in the election.

Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob, meanwhile, said Umno will not help PAS campaign in the by-election as his party has decided to completely boycott the event.

A Port Dickson voter, Rosmadi Mohd Kassim, has filed a judicial review application at the Kuala Lumpur High Court to challenge the decision by his constituency’s outgoing MP Danyal Balagopal Abdullah to vacate the seat thus calling for the by-election there.

Independent candidate Stevie Chan Keng Leong who has announced his intention to contest the parliamentary seat against PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim, says he wants to represent everyone in the country, not only the people in the constituency.

Zahid slams Umno deserters

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a live Facebook interview with Umno Online, slammed those who left Umno following its defeat in GE14 as opportunists who only stayed in the party for positions and benefits.

Zahid told another interview with the New Straits Times that Umno hopes to form a “ unity government” with “any” of the parties from Pakatan Harapan.

Zahid's deputy Mohamad Hasan told a forum that Umno should be considered as a government-in-waiting instead of an opposition party.

Anwar said the idea for a “unity government” between Umno and Harapan parties is not relevant as such a thing was not discussed.

Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said that Umno members are in fact, “ready for change” following the party's defeat in GE14.
