Anwar sworn in as MP

PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim made his comeback to Parliament, taking his oath of office amid loud applause just two days after winning the Port Dickson by-election.

Anwar’s former mentor Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he is happy to have Anwar back in Parliament.

Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, who had vacated the Port Dickson parliamentary seat to trigger the by-election, said he had mixed feelings witnessing Anwar’s swearing-in ceremony.

RM6.38m for PM's overseas trips

The Prime Minister's Department told Parliament that the government has spent RM6.38 million on the overseas visits of Mahathir and his delegations since he took office, including his trip to the UN General Assembly in New York.

The government proposed to Parliament that Mahathir’s UN speech should be adopted as the basis for Malaysia’s foreign policy.

Debates over the proposal led to Foreign Affairs Minister Saifuddin Abdullah trading barbs with his predecessor Anifah Aman, while Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar questioned how signing UN human rights conventions would affect bumiputera privileges.
