Yoursay: Is Harapan even taking asset declaration seriously?

YOURSAY | ‘This is turning out to be a gov’t of gross incompetence’.

MACC denies telling Waytha that cars are not assets

Abasir: This is turning out to be a government of the gross incompetence.

Clearly there was no written process, no published guideline, no definition of assets and no internal review and feedback by those accepting declarations.

And what is more interesting, there appears to have been no comprehensive deliberation among all cabinet members on the who, what and when of these declarations.

It was a silly political stunt and little else. And it has exposed the charade by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's band of bunglers.

Anonymous_1423827415: Most financial experts define an asset as an investment that passively puts money into your pocket without you having to work for it. It could be anything from stocks, to real estate, to businesses and everything in between.

A liability, on the other hand, depletes your bank balance either regularly or seasonally. If your vehicle is putting money in your pocket, for example, if you are an operator of a taxi cab, then it could be categorised as an asset, although it is not always as straightforward as that.

However, if it does not contribute any positive cash flow, then it could be considered a liability.

Tourism minister: I'm poor, so no assets to declare

Anonymous_1538808416: Asset declaration is not about whether you are rich or poor. The fact that if a person refuses to do so mean he has something to hide.

And this is not something to joke about, especially if you are a minister. To provide such an explanation is to tell people you are not serious about it.

Mahathir needs to ensure all his ministers comply with the declaration, failing which, they should be replaced.

Hcleong: As a minister, one should be a good example of a law-abiding citizen. It speaks volumes for one to just fill up and declare whatever you do or do not possess. You will gain all our respect.

By just claiming that you are poor and have nothing to declare as a reason for not declaring does not reflect well on the new Pakatan Harapan government. Just do it.

Spinnot: Well, when I visit certain countries I have to fill in and sign a customs declaration form even though I have nothing to declare.

Even a bankrupt has some assets although his liabilities may be more than his assets.

Anonymous_05cafebd: If you have zero assets, then just declare so. But all these declarations must be verifiable by the authorities and you’d better pray damn hard that it is the truth.

The opposition is just waiting to catch a lie made by any member of the government.

JL: The way it’s going, I think these ministers aren't taking the declaration seriously.

Anwar says he still has time to submit his asset declaration

Well That's Fantastic: Port Dickson MP Anwar Ibrahim cannot afford to cast aspersions on himself like this.

Get these things done before people ask questions so that you don't appear like you might be delaying for a reason.

Anonymous 673761437718749: Declaring assets has been talked about for a long time now. All the MPs should have the figures in their heads already and should be able to declare them anytime. Why do they need three months?

Jasmine: This aspect of voters’ expectations must be met.

For those who claim that they are poor or that they don’t even own a vehicle, MACC surely has the intelligence, wisdom and means to discern the truth of these claims.

Fairplayer: Indeed, why it is so difficult to declare? This is beyond my comprehension!

Assets declared but valuation coming soon, says minister

The Wakandan: That's all hogwash, is it not, minister? You can honestly estimate the value of your assets.

What's so difficult about it? What is the prevailing market price, for example? The value of land can be easily estimated.

Declare everything even if you have nothing, Muhyiddin says

Voice of a Rakyat: The point is you must sign and submit the declaration form even if you say you don't have any assets.

How can you be a minister if you do not even understand that? Or are you intentionally not declaring because you do not want MACC to have hard copy evidence of your declaration?

CKL: Are these people who don't seem to understand their obligation to declare their assets fit to be in the cabinet? How will they figure out more complex issues?

SVR: Could they be hiding something? Once they declare they have no assets and if they are later found to have undeclared assets, they can be punished for false declaration.

So maybe they are playing it safe by not putting their signatures on any paper and just saying verbally that they don’t have any assets.

Salvage Malaysia: Are they saying their savings is also zero? No cash at all? I find that hard to believe.
