Embattled Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali has assured his supporters that “the truth shall prevail” after he was implicated in a series of leaked sex video clips over the past week.
In a message to his followers, Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, described the crisis as a “most trying time” for him.
“To all friends and well-wishers, thank you for your kind and reassuring words, thoughts and prayers.
“I am deeply grateful for the support and care you have shown me in this most trying time but fear not for the truth shall prevail and we shall overcome. In God we trust,” he said in a Twitter posting this morning.
Several video clips of two men committing sex acts in a hotel room were mysteriously circulated to the press and several PKR leaders, along with documents on alleged fund transfers last Tuesday, while a second round of clips were circulated on Wednesday.
Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz later claimed that the two men in the video were Azmin and himself, and that the incident took place during the Sandakan by-election in Sabah last month.
Haziq called for Azmin to be investigated for alleged corruption.
Azmin had since denied all allegations and deemed the videos and purported bank documents as an attempt to smear his name and reputation.
Haziq was arrested yesterday evening and is being investigated under four laws, including Section 377B of the Penal Code for “carnal intercourse against the order of nature” and Section 292 for distribution of obscene materials.
Azmin later tweeted that the Federal Territories mufti Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri had sent him a letter advising him to stay strong in the face of such accusations.
“I am very touched with the reminder and advice from Zulkifli for myself and my family when faced with such aggressive accusations.
“The meeting yesterday evening strengthened my spirit to continue serving for the sake of the people and the country,” he said in his tweet.
The posting included a picture of the letter from the mufti who said the strongest weapon is to pray to Allah.
“I also pray that Allah the Almighty will give strength and courage in facing such crucial moments in the face of such aggressive accusations.
“May this dark spot pass,” the mufti said in the letter dated June 14, which contained his signature and his rubber stamp.
