PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS Youth delegates to its 66th muktamar in Kedah today unanimously passed a resolution to urge the party leadership to take over the helm of Perikatan Nasional and lead the country.

In a fiery session this evening, the main hall at Kedah PAS Complex in Kota Sarang Semut roared with the resounding approval of several hundred delegates to the motion read by PAS Youth information chief Khairul Nadzir Helmi Azhar.

"The time has come for PAS to lead PN. Do you agree? The time has come for PAS to lead Malaysia. Do you agree?" Khairul Nadzir said.

"Agree!" replied the delegates to both questions.

"With this, PAS Youth strongly urges that this motion is read in the central PAS Muktamar, which is for PAS to be allowed to lead PN," the leader said.

The coalition - which has four component parties - is currently being helmed by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin as its chairperson.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, the presidents of Gerakan and Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP), and Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin are PN deputy chairpersons.

The issue of PN power structure and its prime minister candidate for the next general election has become a sore point in PAS-Bersatu relations, especially after Bersatu’s annual general meeting last week named Muhyiddin as its first choice to lead the country.

PAS leaders had cautioned Bersatu against making hasty decisions without proper consultation among members of the opposition coalition.

In April, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man reportedly said PN was expecting a leadership reshuffle after its component parties agreed to form a committee to assess organisational improvements.
