PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang today sent a subtle reminder to the party’s youth wing, saying they should not be hasty in their road to victory.

In delivering his adjourning speech at the 71st PAS Muktamar, he cited a saying by Prophet Muhammad that Islam has been guaranteed victory, and this will happen at a time determined by god.

“Islam will win. You are very hasty. (You should focus) on doing work first.

“As the ones who are really eager to win are the ‘pemuda’ (PAS Youth wing) and their supporters, who have been pressing (the party) to name a prime minister candidate, I want to give you a ‘pantun’ (rhyme).

“Dari Kuala Muda pergi ke Ipoh, Berbekal Ketupat pergi ke Pangkor, Orang Muda memang gopoh, Dah nak melompat nanti tersungkur,” he said.

The short poem basically advised the youths against acting rashly, or otherwise they risk stumbling.

PAS leadership at the muktamar today

During the wing’s earlier muktamar on Friday, PAS Youth unanimously passed a resolution urging the party leadership to take over the helm of Perikatan Nasional, saying the time has come for the Islamist party to govern Malaysia.

The resolution was then taken to PAS’ main muktamar today, where it was also passed by delegates.

Preaching obedience ahead of elections

In his speech, Hadi also delivered a strong reminder to all party delegates about the importance of ‘wala’, the Arabic term for obedience or loyalty to leaders.

The Marang MP reprimanded certain quarters in PAS, whom he said had failed to respect some leaders and their decisions.

It is believed Hadi was stressing this matter to prepare party members for the upcoming elections, particularly on the aspect of accepting candidate nominations.

“There must be loyalty to leaders who have been elected in muktamar (meeting), and leaders who are appointed by the central leadership.

“(This includes) those who are chosen to contest in elections and to be menteri besar.

“The issue of loyalty to leaders has been a big problem, (because) some people want the leaders to follow their wishes and opinion,” he said.

Adding further, Hadi said the party’s leadership would consider the views of every quarter and look into an issue from an overall perspective before they arrive at any decision.

This includes determining which candidate is winnable in an election.

“It becomes a big problem when one’s loyalty is weakened by a seed of doubt sown by the devil.

“This will cause disunity when we should be standing together despite any disagreement.”
