Bersatu men accused of selling cows for laptop, and 6 news from yesterday

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

1. Three Bagan Datuk Bersatu division leaders were reported to the MACC for allegedly selling two cows donated by Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu for Aidiladha to buy a laptop and printer.

2. DAP's Lim Guan Eng meets twice with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over khat issue.

3. Former second finance minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah told the Kuala Lumpur High Court he had requested to lead a delegation to resolve the issue of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds frozen in Switzerland but then prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who was also finance minister, was not agreeable to the proposal.

4. Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin called for a stop to all speculation on the disappearance of a 15-year-old Irish girl in Negeri Sembilan last Sunday. He said it is wrong to assume that Nora Anne Quoirin, a special child, was abducted from The Dusun Rainforest Resort near Seremban because the police know better.

5. The lawyer for the Orang Laut Seletar group seeking compensation for their ancestral lands in Stulang Laut claims that the state government is taking a hard line in the case, and tying it down with technicalities. This comes despite a statement on June 5 by recently appointed Johor Menteri Besar Dr Sahruddin Jamal indicating a swift resolution to the case which dates back to 1993.

6. PSM saw red over a legal warning made by a Khazanah Nasional subsidiary against manufacturers of Tongkat Ali products. The warning was issued by Biotropics Malaysia Berhad which has taken out a patent for the bioactive component of Tongkat Ali. A full-page notice of the warning was published in The Star on July 31 by Biotropics's solicitors. 

Biotropics then clarified that its patent was for ‘new scientific uses' of Tongkat Ali and not the plant itself.

7. Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency today rescued 75 Indonesian immigrants from drowning at 2.8 nautical miles from Sungai Kurau, near Port Klang. The wooden boat the immigrants were in was on the brink of sinking due to a leak near its engine section.
