Ku Li: If PAS insists on being with PN, we'll fight them too

UMNO AGM | BN is ready to contest on its own, even if it means having to face PAS in the 15th general election (GE15), said Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.
Razaleigh (above), who is also the Umno advisory council chairperson, explained that he was confident that BN would be able to achieve victory despite having to go it alone if PAS decided to remain with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's ruling Perikatan Nasional coalition.
"We have already contested solo... If we do not believe (we can win) how can we contest?" he said when met after the president's policy speech at the Umno annual general assembly 2020, at the World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur, today.
Asked whether BN's decision to contest solo would hurt PAS, Razaleigh said that up to this point, Umno was still with PAS in the Muafakat Nasional grouping.
"That is up to PAS because we are with them in Muafakat Nasional. But after we withdraw from PN and our ministers (Umno) will stop being ministers, deputies, from being GLC chairpersons, and other PN appointments, we will have nothing to do with PN anymore.
"Therefore, we will fight. If PAS is still there (with PN), we will fight them. What can we do?" asked Razaleigh, who is also Gua Musang MP.
Earlier in his policy speech, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said BN was ready to face the GE15 alone.
He said this was to enable Umno to return to being the dominant political force after GE15 by winning many seats.
"Understanding the current political reality, BN should be prepared. BN has decided to face GE15 alone.
"Let me explain, once and for all: for Umno to become dominant again after GE15, firstly, we must win the most seats. Secondly, BN needs to decide which party is truly sincere to form a government with us," Zahid said.
Meanwhile, Razaleigh, also known as Ku Li, said if PAS decides to stick with Umno, the parties need to find a formula to avoid clashes.
Earlier, former BN secretary-general Annuar Musa said it was the president's right to state his stance that BN would contest solo.
However, it is up to the delegates to judge, said Annuar, who is Ketereh MP.
"It's the president's right to include his narrative in his policy speech, and it is up to Umno, it is up to the delegates on whether we contest solo. At least, the president explained the decision," he said.
