PAS' tactics to woo non-Malays

PAS wants non-Muslims to like them and vote for them.

However, the party appears to be sending very mixed signals.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who renewed the call for the party to woo non-Malays, said that speaking Chinese and Indian caused Malays to buruk sangka (have bad impressions).

His solution was for everyone to speak Malay.

PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, however, said the party should learn Mandarin and Tamil to connect with non-Malays.

A Selangor PAS Youth delegate at the party muktamar took things one step further, suggesting that party leaders should not just woo non-Malays, but marry them to secure their votes.

Akmal-factor in Mahkota

Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh may be a key figure in the upcoming Mahkota by-election.

However, this may not be a good thing - at least for BN.

Their allies in Pakatan Harapan worry that Akmal's aggressive attitude and attacks on Seputeh MP Teresa Kok over the halal certification issue may cause non-Malay voters to give the election a miss.

In a seat where 45 percent of voters are non-Malays, that could mean the difference between victory and defeat for BN.

The Madani coalition already experienced such a loss of non-Malay support during the Sungai Bakap by-election, believed to be due to the perception that the government was disregarding their interests.

402 kids rescued

Police rescued 402 children in raids on 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

The welfare homes were run by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH), which has close links to the banned al-Arqam deviant group.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain claimed the children were sodomised and taught to sodomise each other.

GISBH, however, denied this.
