Here are the key headlines from yesterday you may have missed, in brief.

Ethnic cleansing, keris, and severing ties at muktamar

The PAS muktamar has seen several controversies including a delegate claiming ethnic cleansing against Malays in Penang, prompting DAP Youth to lodge a police report.

PKR Youth deputy chief Afif Bahardin, who is also a Penang cabinet member, dismissed the claim and questioned why PAS is not training its guns against Umno.

PAS leaders donning Malay warrior attire and waving a giant keris had also raised eyebrows but its Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz defended the move.

Also under spotlight at the muktamar were several calls for PAS to sever ties with PKR, which PAS information chief Nasruddin Hassan said the party's syura council will consider.

However, PAS election director Mustafa Ali was insistent that PAS would continue working with PKR until the next election.

Following some of its leaders who quit to form splinter Parti Amanah Negara, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan conceded the party had lost 200,000 members, or about 20 percent of its membership.

Dr M questioned by cops

Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad was questioned by police for claiming the rulers' were under house arrest after failing to obtain an audience to present the Citizens' Declaration's calling for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's removal.

Mahathir also took time off at an event to speak to the media, calling PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's Hudud Bill "not Islamic" but claiming Umno will likely back it in exchange for PAS' political support.

Meanwhile, NGO Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia lodge several police reports claiming the Citizens' Declaration petition contained fake signatures.

PSM also criticised Pakatan Harapan leaders for working with Mahathir to oust Najib, stating that it reflected the dearth of quality leaders in the opposition.

Cops probing death of DPM's son-in-law

Imperial Dental Specialist Centre went public over the death of its patient Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi, who is also the deputy prime minister's son-in-law, stating that it was a minor oral surgery under sedation and urged the public not to speculate on the matter.

Police have begun recording statements from the dental staff.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said its probe on the matter will take two weeks.

Sacked Umno Wanita deputy chief Hamidah Osman is speculated to join the fray in the Kuala Kangsar by-election as an independent candidate.

The prime minister's press secretary Tengku Sharifuddin Tengku Ahmad has until June 17 to file his defence after former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir sued him for defamation.

The Malaysian Association of Social Workers called for Putrajaya to criminalise finger rape amid the scandal of a British serial paedophile, who is believed to have abused some 200 children in Malaysia.

Artist Fahmi Reza is set to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court in Jalan Duta on June 6 and at the Ipoh Sessions Court on June 10 for posting images of clown-faced Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The National Anti-Drugs Agency denied rounding up the homeless and dumping them outside the city, stating that it only targeted drug users.

Looking ahead

PKR Youth is set to announce its mobilisation for the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections this afternoon amid concerns the party is reluctant to offend PAS.

Meanwhile, the contestants for the twin by-elections are making final preparations for nomination day, which is tomorrow. Campaigning will kick off soon after. Polling is on June 18.
