'Najib is MO1'

Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan declared to UK-based BBC that the "Malaysian Official 1" (MO1), referred to in the Department of Justice's (DOJ) filing on 1MDB, is indeed Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

This prompted PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man to ask if the multi-billion deposits in Najib's personal bank accounts were really an "Arab donation" as claimed, or money misappropriated from 1MDB.

The DOJ in its court filing said more than US$3.5 billion was misappropriated from 1MDB and at least US$731 million of this money went to "MO1".

Meanwhile, organisers of the TangkapMO1 rally last Saturday were questioned by police and the investigations against them may also be extended to cover offences of sedition and sabotaging democracy.

Bersih, which is planning to organise a similar rally soon, said the TangkapMO1 rally's 2,000-strong turnout will not be an indicator on when the movement plans to hold its own rally.

Zika virus has landed

Malaysia has registered its first Zika virus case after a mother from Klang was infected after visiting her daughter in Singapore.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak urged the people to be wary amid concerns that the Zika virus will start to spread locally.

The Selangor State Health Department said it was retracing all places the infected woman had visited and is taking preventive measures.

Rafizi faces prospect of jail

The Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur has ordered PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli to enter his defence on his charge of breaching the Official Secrets Act 1972.

Rafizi said he has no regrets and was prepared to face the mandatory jail term if found guilty, which will disqualify him as Pandan MP.

In another development, MCA said it is not willing to let go the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat in the next election even though Umno is demanding the seat.
