Missing youth bad omen for Harapan; Johor sultan banishes close-minded to caves

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Missing youth bad omen for Harapan

Low youth turnout at Pakatan Harapan's anti-kleptocracy rally on Saturday bears ill tidings for the coalition, as they may be losing the support of a key voter group.

Political fatigue and bad planning are believed to have further hampered the overhyped rally.

PAS gloated at the poor turnout, saying it could not match the attendance of its Fastaqim 2.0 rally last month.

Umno leaders, meanwhile, said the low attendance showed that people were fed up with the opposition.

Johor sultan banishes close-minded to caves

Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar spoke out against various practices forbidden on the grounds of religion to the point of impracticality, saying those who do so should live in a cave.

There is no law prohibiting a laundrette owner from putting up a “Muslims only” sign, said former chief justice Abdul Hamid Mohamad.

PAS plans to postpone its proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, or Act 355, until after the 14th General Election.

MB snubs ex-MB

Former Selangor menteri besar Abu Hassan Omar said the current menteri besar Azmin Ali was a good leader in the wrong party, and that BN's Noh Omar needed to be brave.

Azmin (photo) was flattered by Abu Hassan's compliments, but said he would stick with PKR.

Another former menteri besar, Khalid Ibrahim, says his predecessors in BN should join him, not the other way around.

Khalid also brushed off a threat by Selangor exco member Teng Chang Kim, saying it showed that Pakatan Harapan lacked transparency.
