Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali said the civil service will uphold its obligations to serve the public in any circumstance.
Mohd Zuki said that despite the current headwinds, the civil service is still running smoothly.
"The civil service will always ensure the well-being of the people," Mohd Zuki told Malaysiakini.
He urged the public to remain calm and proceed with their daily affairs as usual.
The country is currently without a cabinet following Dr Mahathir Mohamad's shocking decision to resign as prime minister yesterday.
This was followed by the withdrawal of Bersatu and 11 PKR MPs from the Pakatan Harapan coalition, which caused the collapse of the coalition government.
Following this, Mahathir's resignation was accepted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who then installed Mahathir as the interim prime minister without a cabinet.
The Agong will be interviewing all MPs, except Mahathir, today and tomorrow to determine which MPs command majority support to lead the next government.
Second Wuhan evacuation mission
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) had also confirmed that a second humanitarian aid mission to bring back another group of citizens from Wuhan is still on.
A source from the Ministry of Health has also said that the citizens and their families are scheduled to arrive in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow morning.
This group will have 75 individuals returning to Malaysia and will follow the same standard operating procedure of the first mission on Feb 4, the source said.
Health Ministry secretary-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah assured that the dissolution of the cabinet would not affect the government’s effort in handling the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
