Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali has declined to speculate on claims that he was targeted in a sex video in a bid to sabotage his chances as a prime ministerial candidate.

"I don't want to speculate. That is the prerogative of the prime minister to decide who is best and fit to succeed.

"What is important is that the person must be accepted by the majority of the people and leadership," he told journalists after attending a Hari Raya open house organised by Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) in Shah Alam today.

Azmin was asked whether he was being sabotaged as there was no clear timeline for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's succession plan and that the former was a potential candidate to replace him.

The Gombak MP stressed that his focus is to deliver on the economy.

"My main focus is to ensure that the level of confidence of investors is strong for them to stay in Malaysia, and I have been too busy and occupied with my ministry.

"This is a big ministry and I am not here to talk about politics. You know that even when I was in Selangor (as menteri besar), I rarely talked politics as I wanted to be responsible in my duties to give the best to the rakyat," he said.

Yesterday, Azmin said a series of sex videos targetting him was character assassination aimed at killing his political career.

The video showed two men getting intimate, purportedly, at a hotel in Sabah.

Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz had confessed that he was the person in the video and implicated Azmin as his partner.

Azmin has issued a denial on the claim, and his political secretary, Hilman Idham, lodged a police report earlier today.
